In this article, you will find information about the fuses of the Volkswagen Passat (B4) (models 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996), including diagrams of the fuse boxes, a list of fuses and relays, their designation, and the location of the fuse blocks within the vehicle.
Checking and Replacing Fuses in VW Passat B4
Caution!
Using the wrong fuse, using a blown fuse that has been repaired, and using metal objects in place of fuses to complete the electrical connection in the circuit can cause fires and serious personal injury.
- Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amp rating. Replace a blown fuse only with a fuse of the same amperage (same color and same imprint) and same overall size.
- Never repair fuses.
- Never replace fuses with a metal strip, a paper clip, or a similar object.
Location of the Fuse Box
The fuse panel is located behind the lower panel on the driver’s side of the dashboard.
All power windows are equipped with a circuit breaker, which, after eliminating the cause of overload, for example, caused by freezing of the windows, switches on again after a few seconds.
Fusible links
On models with diesel engines, the engine glow plug supply circuit is fused. This insert is located in the engine compartment above the brake booster or on the spark plug control unit behind the windscreen washer reservoir. If this insert is burned out. it means that something has happened to the system, therefore, before replacing the insert, it is necessary to diagnose the diesel engine heating system and identify the cause of the burnout.
