Checking and Replacing Fuses in Cadillac DeVille
The wiring circuits in your vehicle are protected from short circuits by a combination of fuses and circuit breakers. This greatly reduces the chance of fires caused by electrical problems. Look at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the fuse. Circuit breakers protect the power windows and other power accessories. When the current load is too heavy, the circuit breaker opens and closes, protecting the circuit until the problem is fixed or goes away.
Caution!
- Be sure you replace a bad fuse with a new one of the identical size and rating.
- Some add-on electrical equipment can keep other components from working as they should.
Location of Fuse Boxes
Underhood Fuse Block:
The underhood fuse block is located next to the engine air cleaner/filter on the driver’s side of the engine. Lift the cover to gain access.
MaxiFuses/Relay Center:
The MaxiFuses and relays are located next to the engine compartment fuse block on the driver’s side of the engine. To access the compartment fuse block, remove the shroud cover.
Rear Compartment Fuse Block:
This fuse block is located on the front wall of the trunk (behind the rear seat) on the driver’s side. Loosen the four trunk trim fasteners and pull the trim away from the fuse block to gain access.
The headlamp wiring has an individual fuse which is powered by a MaxiFuse. An electrical overload will cause the lamps to go on and off, or in some cases to remain off. If this happens, have the headlamp wiring checked right away.
The windshield wiper motor is powered by a MaxiFuse. If the motor overheats due to heavy snow, etc., the wipers will stop until the motor cools. If the overload is caused by some electrical problem, be sure to have it fixed.
